For managers, labels and small publishers: know where your writers’ works are registered

You look after a few writers, or a few hundred. Each of them is registered under more than one spelling or number, some of their works may not reach them, and nobody has the time to check every registration by hand. Songlinks does the checking and shows you where to look.

The problem you already have

• One writer, several registrations. A legal name and a short one, a missing middle name, a typo, a second IPI name number, a record with no number at all. Each registration is a name, not a person, and nothing in the data joins them.
• Works that may not reach the writer. A work filed under a spelling or number nobody on your side tracks sits apart from the rest of the catalogue, and nobody is told.
• No time to check each one. Searching every spelling of every writer, one registry search at a time, is a job nobody on a small team gets to.

What Songlinks gives you

• A team catalogue, free. Up to 50 writers per team and up to 10 teams of your own, with viewer, editor, admin and owner roles and invitations by link. Each writer shows their works, the works on their main IPI name number, and the works registered elsewhere, read live. What the catalogue does.
• Every registration behind a writer, grouped on one page with the evidence for each join: shared works, co-writers and numbers.
• A check of your CWR files. CWR Check, from the same team, validates a CWR file and checks the writers in it, then hands their IPI name numbers to Songlinks for a writers check.
• A roster audit, done for you. For a big roster we run every writer at once and send back every registration per writer with its evidence: the bulk songwriter lookup, as a managed service.
• Everything exports. Each catalogue downloads as CSV, and the account downloads whole.

A first hour with it

1. Take the IPI name numbers from your latest CWR file or writer list and paste them into a writers check: up to 50 at a time.
2. Save them to your team’s catalogue and invite the people who work the roster with you.
3. Open the writers flagged with works elsewhere, and see which registrations sit under another spelling or number.
4. Take that to the writer’s publisher or administrator, who files the correction: how works under another spelling or number get fixed.

Good to know

• The groupings are statistical and unverified: a model decides which registrations are one person, and no person has checked its answers. Every join shows its evidence, so check the ones that matter before acting on them.
• The data is a snapshot of public registration data that does not state its own date, so a very recent registration may not be in it yet.
• Songlinks shows registrations; it does not change them, and it says nothing about what anyone is owed. The correction itself is your publisher’s or administrator’s to file.
