Is this your writer? Tell us which registrations are theirs
You know your writer. The registrations do not: they hold a name, sometimes a number, and nothing that says two of them are the same person. Record which ones are your writer’s, which are not, and which you are unsure of — then take that to the people who can correct the registrations.
About 1 in 3 songwriters in rights registrations have works filed under another spelling or IPI number.

What you do
- Open a writer from your roster, a person page (“Is this your writer?”), a lookup or a writers check, and go through the registrations Songlinks has grouped into them, including the ones it was not sure enough to join.
- Mark each one: my writer’s, not my writer’s, or not sure, with a note if you like. Say whether the registered spelling is right or what it should be; for a number nobody holds, that the writer should have registrations; for a number two people share, which one is yours.
- Download the worksheet, a CSV of every work under those registrations with what you recorded against each, and take it to the writer’s publisher or administrator.
- They file the correction, often as a revised CWR file: how works under another spelling or number get fixed.

Songlinks records; it does not decide
What you mark is your statement about your writer, kept in your account. Songlinks does not change any registration, does not pass your statements to a society or an administrator, and does not mark anything as fixed: the correction is filed by whoever made the registration.
Your records, and how they are used
What you record here is yours and stays in your account. We may also use it, combined with other accounts’ and never with your name or team, to improve how Songlinks groups registrations.
Good to know
- Songlinks’ own groupings are statistical and unverified: a model made them from public registration data, and no person has checked them. That is what your statements are for.
- The data is a snapshot, and the match page and the worksheet say its date, so a very recent registration may not be in it yet.
